Nice to have Adam back starting last night. Makes a massive difference in terms of our creativity going forward. Removes the load on Eze. Great passer, always looking forward and brilliant one-touch through balls. Welcome back, let's hope he stays with us for a while. Only downside, Tuchel in the stands last night, could be dragged off for England duty, injury or getting his head turned by a money-no-object club.

Talking of which, watched B Munich v Celtic last week. Kompany has them playing like Burnley, but Michael Olise absolute standout player for them.

He's brilliant and will be so important in the run in.

As an England fan, I desperately want to see him in that midfield three with Rice and Bellingham. Think his composure and passing ability would give us such a platform for tournament success. Really don't think England have anybody else like him.

That performance last night in front of Tuchel won't have done him any harm.

As I said when he arrived, he's a world class player and we won't keep him more than 3 years, then he'll be sold for a monster fee.

I see him as Sergio Busquets, always scanning, aware of where the ball is about to go, hard to get it off him, great tackler and terrific passing range with vision. He's going to the very top but unfortunately that isn't us.

Enjoy him while it lasts - an absolute freak of a player who is clearly destined for bigger things. I don't really understand how none of the bigger clubs were in for him before we picked him up.

With Guehi almost certainly moving on this summer, I am hoping the club stand firm on Wharton and we get another year out of him.

A special, special player.

That does feel very nicely balanced - if you were being picky, Wharton maybe lacks a little running power/explosiveness to get around the pitch, and Rice/Bellingham bring that in spades.

Wharton dictating with those two buzzing around him could be incredible.

I think other clubs weren't interested because a lot of football these days is about making sure everyone is an 'athlete' - they just saw a skinny kid with no real pace... but he's a gem for us!

I think back to some of the great cultured passers of the past, Hoddle, Wilkins, Brooking, they were so calm and seemed to have so much time on the ball because they were confident with the ball at their feet, they could look up and pick out passes no-one else could see and didn’t treat the ball like a hot potato they couldn’t wait to get rid of.
Adam Wharton has those very qualities and although he’s obviously got a lot to do to be up there with those three and I doubt he’s going to score the goals they did, but just comparing him in any way to them with this calmness, time on the ball and quality of passing is the biggest compliment I can give him

Pace is obviously an advantage but as long as he's passing it to the speed merchants he's fine. Fingers crossed he can add some goals to his game but again as long as he's putting JPM and Sarr through we can live with it.

What about Cole Palmer. He can play behind the attack and provide the sort of telling ball we're talking about, no?

Palmer can play a killer ball in the final third, sure, but he's not someone who sits in the centre-circle dictating play like Wharton, which I assume is what Canterbury Palace meant by England not having anyone similar.

Palmer and Wharton are vastly different players.

Quite right too. Better to have a rest next month rather than get injured with England again.

I thought I saw him limping after the final whistle last night and was worried he'd picked up a knock, but now I wonder if OG told him to do that.
He got thumped by McGinn. Wasn't intentional, but hit Wharton hard on the thigh. I saw him limping. Hopefully it was just a dead leg. Stay home Adam, you've got oodles of time ahead for England.

I would liken Wharton to Rice out of England's current players. It's also been interesting to see Rice develop his more forward play over recent seasons. Without resorting to hyperbole, I wonder if Wharton could be better than Rice. However, we need to ensure no more long term injuries for a while or he'll end up more like Wilshire. I guess those kind of things indicate that a player can be brilliant and end up sh1t or end up slightly better. Hopefully better, and for us, in Wharton's case.

IMO he's nothing like Rice. Who is physically great, but not great on the ball.

Whartons range and speed of passing is insane.

IMO again, he showed last season that he's one of very best Just need to wait a bit for the world to catch up.
